Game Summary
The Superbas squandered a 3-run lead in the final inning of a heart-breaking loss, 16-8, to the cocky Dogg Pound on Wednesday, June 28. The Superbas held a 8-5 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth when the Dogg Pound hitters continued to hit bloopers into no-man’s land.
Pitcher Carlo Quinonez continues to tear up opposing pitchers in the second half of the season by hitting 2 doubles, a triple and his first home run of the season. Quinonez scored four times and knocked in 3 runs. Over the past two games, Quinonez is 9 for 9 with 3 doubles and 3 triples, 7 runs and 9 RBI. Quinonez’s offensive statistics, accordingly, have gone through the roof. He leads all Superbas players with a .680 batting average, 1.160 slugging percentage and 1.138 contribution percentage.
Third baseman Andrew Orr and shortstop Jeff Wisniewski contributed with 3 hits apiece. Second baseman Brooks Ramsdell added two hits, convincing cougars and others that he is, indeed, out of his slump.
Outfielders Wright Cole and Ted Bayham provided spectacular defense in what was one of the best defensive games of the season for the Superbas. Through the first five innings, the Superbas held the vaunted Dogg Pound to only five runs, including a 1-2-3 inning in the first. Quinonez pitched well, Ramsdell played solid at second, and catcher Joe Gray held on to the ball during a wild collision at the plate on a throw home from right via cut-off man Ramsdell.
Gray struck out swinging for the first time this year.
