Superbas Game 009-20060621

Game Summary

The Superbas snapped their 5-game losing streak after pummeling the Beer Nutz, 22-8, in the late game on Wednesday, June 21. The Superbas scored 14 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a tie game. Seven of the fourteen runs were scored with two outs. The Superbas had 30 hits in the game, 13 of which came in the final at-bat.

The top four hitters in the batting order, catcher Kevin Ghalambor, rightfielder Jesus Espinoza, third baseman Andrew Orr, and pitcher Carlo Quinonez, combined for 16 hits and 14 runs scored. Orr was a single shy of a cycle, including his first home run of the season, batting in 5 runs. Quinonez went 5 for 5 with a pair of triples and a double, and knocked in 6 runs.

The Superbas played their best game of the season defensively behind Quinonez’s stellar pitching and three strikeouts. The eight runs scored against the Superbas was the lowest number of runs the Superbas have allowed all season.

The Superbas held their errors to a minimum and routinely hit their cutoff men which didn’t allow Beer Nutz’ hitters to extend singles into doubles. Leftfielder Wright Cole made several plays on long fly balls and Orr played his best defensive game of the season.

Centerfielder Eric Grace returned to the lineup from injury and played solid in centerfield and went 3 for 3 with 3 RBI at the plate. Outfielder Ted Bayham and second baseman Brooks Ramsdell both broke out their season-long slumps with two hits apiece.

Espinoza struck out looking for the second time this season.
