What is with the facebook love story between you and LaRiena? Juts kidding. How is China? Is it only opium over there, or are there other choices? -Jeff

Joe Dobkin February 3 at 8:30pm
Haha….well when you live 7000+ miles apart you need to do some things to stay connected ๐Ÿ™‚

China is okay. To be honest I am starting to be ready to come home, even though I’m only roughly half way through. I still am enjoying the adventures and all, but I miss her and my family and just having a normal life I guess. Oh well, another year will be over before I know it.

No Opium in China bro….they fought two full scale wars over that shit. Huge penalties if someone were to get caught with that. There are other things if you know where to look, but drugs in general are not popular here.

How is life with you?

Jeffrey Wisniewski February 3 at 8:48pm
I should have remembered the Opium wars. Life is good. Emilia and I returned from a week in Maui last week, and we are planning a trip to Poland and Amsterdam this May. Work is getting a bit more stressful because of the California budget crisis, but I’m confident I’ll be able to weather the storm. The battery is dead in my truck. I’m heading to Tahoe soon for a weekend of boarding. It looks to be another dry winter. -Jeff

Sounds like you’ve got some cool shit going on. I still havent made it out to Tahoe…..its on my short list though. When I get back, I’ll be starting my MBA program somewhere, but I am planning to apply to UC Berkeley and possibly Stanford among others. Who knows, maybe we’ll end up in San Fran after all, and Tahoe will just be a weekend drive away!

Good luck with the job. I’m sure it’ll all work out for you.

An MBA? Don’t get me started…

I’m leaving Facebook. My email is jeff3w@gmail. Let me know if you are ever in the area. Good luck in China and beyond. -Jeff

why are you leaving facebook? you too cool for online networking sites? are you on linked-in?

Jeffrey Wisniewski March 10 at 11:04am
Exactly. It is becoming a bit too obtrusive for my tastes. What I really like is being able to connect, and that is why I’ll keep my account (with zero “friends”) so random people can contact me, but not become some sort of virtual partner-in-life. After that initial contact, I prefer email, Flickr, blogs, etc. There is so much “noise” on Facebook, and almost all of it is useless. It really hit me when I would send a message to a few people and they would never respond (after they requested my “friendship”). What is that? I guess it doesn’t count if it is not on “the Wall,” a feature I do not understand. There is also the outward drive to make it profitable by selling your habits to your friends, something I am not too comfortable with. I am on LinkedIn (and I think we are contacts), I will remain on Facebook for the time-being, but you have my email, etc., and I think that is the best way to communicate — honesty, private, with context; not for a show. I can talk more about this but I won’t. I friended Ryan Ackerhalt for awhile, and he wrote that he loved making money in NYC. I wish you luck in China, and with LaRiena. Congratulations. And I hope to catch a drink or smoke with you sometime. -Jeff

hi

Ryan Kus January 24 at 2:49pm
Didn’t you used to live in Williamsville, NY?

Jeffrey Wisniewski January 26 at 8:07am
How are you doing? It’s been a long, long time. Congratulations on the kid. Living in Massachusetts? I’m in the San Francisco bay area.

Ryan Kus January 26 at 10:08am
I am doing great. I am taking over a boutique shop and also have a very profitable business on the side. Thank you. How are you doing? How is the family?

Jeffrey Wisniewski January 30 at 10:42am
Congratulations on the business news. Everything is well with the family. Jim is married in Philadelphia area. Patti is married with a 1-yr old girl in New York City, Michelle is doing her teaching) thing in Connecticut, and my parents are both retired, soaking up the sun in Hawaii as I write. I’m married and working as an engineer. How about you?

Ryan Kus January 30 at 11:22am
Thank you. That is great to hear about your family. My parents are living in Cuba, NY (hour and half south of buffalo) living on a lake. How is work as an engineer?

Jeffrey Wisniewski January 30 at 11:42am
I remember the cottage we visited at Cuba Lake. Is it the same place? That was a lot of fun. I also remember stopping by your grandma’s house on the way home once. That was awkward. It is weird meeting other people’s grandparents. I’m not sure why. Engineering is fun. We have a lot of levee work in Northern California following the Katrina disaster.

Ryan Kus January 30 at 1:04pm
They tore that place down and rebuilt a new one. Do you look for other or additional ways of making money? There is still a lot more work to do from Katrina?

Jeffrey Wisniewski January 30 at 2:14pm
The devastation from Katrina has resulted in a complete evaluation of the levee system across California, and there is a lot of work to do. I have web-site here and there, small side-projects, but nothing more than that.
