Coach’s Notes — Game 29

– We still may have a shot at the playoffs, believe it or not. I believe in this team, and good things happen to those who believe in something, like the pagan ritual of fornicating with goats.

– I have calculated the stats and batting leaders, and those will be posted shortly. And I will have final stats and leaders at the end of the season.

– I’ve done my best to interpret the books. However, there are some holes, or continuity errors, and I make my best guess as to what took place. If you read the Inning-by-Inning logs, and note that something is out of whack, please let me know. That way, I’ll be able to rectify any mistakes in the statistics.

– We will definitely be fielding a team next summer, so if you are interested, let me know, and I’ll be contacting you by email in the beginning of January for registration, etc.

– We may have new uniforms for the summer, button-down fancy ones. But we’ll have to win more often, or else we’ll look like well-dressed idiots. (The uniform quality, of course, will be a function of what everyone is willing to pay for them.)

– And I hope to have the website completely overhauled by then.

– Following last week’s game, I apologized to Andy for my outburst, and he accepted it. There was no reason for me to act out like that. Accordingly, I have suspended myself one game as a result of the incident. (If I would like to lead by example, I need to accept responsibility and punishment, as well.) Andy will be coaching Thursday’s game (with Brooks as his assistant). I will be back for the last game of the season. Good luck.

-Jeff

Superbas Game 029-20071011

Game Summary

The Superbas lost a heart-breaker in the late game on Thursday evening, 13-9 to S.W.A.T., and the league was wondering if the embattled Superbas franchise were going to protest the game, following a suspiciously quick end to the game. The game was called for time ten minutes ahead of schedule. The chief ump officiating the game has been a nemesis for the Superbas since they had entered the league.

Brooks Ramsdell pitched another great game, and his name has risen around the league in discussion of softball’s version of the Cy Young, the Nancy Sinatra Award. Shortstop Jeff Wisniewski and outfielder Tony Barsotti played well defensively.

Ramsdell continues to shine at the plate, walking twice and singling, scoring a run, and knocking one in. Barsotti had two doubles, scored a run, and plated another. Outfielders Jesus Espinoza and Greg Sailor had two hits apiece.

Defensive Player of the Game: Brooks Ramsdell.
Offensive Player of the Game: Tony Barsotti (2-3, 2 2B, R, RBI).

Superbas Game 027-20070927

Game Summary

The Superbas ended their dreadful 17-game winless streak with a big 10-5 win over the Brown Soxs. The Superbas are now enjoying a 2-game lossless streak.

Pitcher Brooks Ramsdell pitched a gem, striking out a player here and there, and the defense played solid around him. The coach praised the pitcher’s efforts without end following the win: “Without Brooks, we would be like the third pea in a pod, while the other two are busy getting it on. Sure it is fun to watch, but sooner or later, you are going to want to join in.”

Outfielder Tony Barsotti had two hits and two runs-batted in. Catcher Joe Gray reached base three times and scored twice. Designated hitter Wright Cole had three singles, scored two runs, and plated another. Ramsdell walked three times in addition to his single, and knocked in two runs. Outfielder Greg Sailor and first baseman Jim Mahoney had two hits apiece.

Outfielder James Loden struck out looking in the fourth inning.

Defensive Player of the Game: Brooks Ramsdell.
Offensive Players of the Game: Tony Barsotti (2-3, 2B, R, 2 RBI), Joe Gray (1-2, 2R, RBI) and Wright Cole (3-3, 2 R, RBI).

Philly Night Redux

Hey-

I just wanted to thank everyone — even those who did not make it (Travis the man-god, Tony Redirect) — for making the bachelor party a great time. Arturo did a wonderful job coordinating, and everyone at MGA did well keeping the plan from Jim.

Some notes…
– Drinking Belgian beer, eating typical
Belgian fare and swapping wallets is not a good idea. Any combination
of the two is alright, but combining all three leads to mixed results.
– Pat’s “whit whiz” shack was fully staffed at 3am.
– Getting stuck in traffic at 4am — and coming to a complete stop — is usually not expected, as I’m told.
– Korey Kay, er, Jon probably contributed the most to the evening, including sacrificing his Blackberry for the cause.

Thank you, Arturo, for planning and driving; without you, the world would be a much more bleak place. You are the Howard Roark of the group.* Thank you, Soper, Matt and Jon, for making the evening memorable. And thank you, Jim, for getting married and giving us a reason do this.

I had a blast and enjoyed everything, guys, and I truly hope that our paths cross again. If not, I wish the best of luck to you.

God bless you, and god bless the United States of America. And Canada. And the ladies in Iceland, they’re supposed to be smoking hot. (Any confirmation on this?)

-Jeff

* And I’m Ellsworth Toohey. (I’m now sixty percent through the book, and I view Toohey as a major tool. Just my opinion.)

Also, there were two photos from that night included in the slideshow at the wedding — you may had seen them — and I’ll post the rest on Flickr sometime this week (link will follow).
