Good Night, and Good Luck

Great game. A win is a win, and a win to end a seventeen-game winless streak is even more than that.

I will not be at next week’s game as I will be on the east coast. The interim coach in my absence will be Andy Orr. Treat him with respect, the same as you treat me. Well, maybe a little better. He’s older and wiser. And fatter. His assistant will be Brooks Ramsdell. I will be blogging the typical stuff, but there will be no game summaries, etc., until I return. James Loden is tasked with keeping book next week. Remember: A home run doesn’t count unless the book is kept.

Good luck, and let’s keep on winning.

PS. I completed the transfer of blog entries to the new system, so there should only be one more feed that includes old posts. Once again, my apologies for the confusion and inconvenience.

PPS. One more thing. I will be blogging, or at least making an attempt to, on my main, mostly political blog, reyonthehill, as I travel. Feel free to check that out and see what the ol’ ball coach is up to. (I’ll be in Philadelphia, Boston and Annapolis.)

Coach’s Notes — Game 26

– That was quite the game. Coming back with five runs to tie, nice work. Now let’s win one. For all the retarded people.

– I am more than glad that I don’t need to keep track of the Strikeout for Beer Keg Fundraiser, but saddened that we will not have a keg paid-for at the end of the season.

– I found out this morning that the emailed feed will include all posts that are backposted. That sucks, but it will only be for as long as I need to catch up. In the interim, enjoy some posts from the archive.

– The best part of the new site will be the organization. I had a wet dream last night thinking about it.

Superbas Game 026-20070920

Game Summary

The Superbas ended their 16-game losing streak with a tie on Tuesday night before a capacity crowd. The Superbas scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull even with the Scrubs, 15-15. The Superbas, however, are still mired in a 17-game winless streak.

Outfielder Tony Barsotti ran down several deep fly balls and Brooks Ramsdell pitched a gem in the finest defensive effort in team history. Third baseman Jeff Wisniewski and rightfielder Greg Sailor played solid.

Barsotti hit three home runs, becoming the all-time leader in home runs for the Superbas, single-game, season and career. Barsotti had 7 runs batted-in. Ramsdell reached base and scored all four times he came to the plate. Catcher Mike Atiyeh had three hits and an RBI. Leftfielder Tim Evans reached base four times and was a home run shy of the cycle.

Coach’s Notes — Game 25

– I like this team. This team can hit. We will win four games.

– This team is guided by principles. There are seven team rules and four team ordinances. (These two may be someday combined.) Rule number three states that “every player will play at least three innings in the field.” With thirteen players at last week’s game, one shy of the batting limit, every player had at least 3 innings in the field, which I am proud of, and expect that to continue.

The third baseman will be the captain of the infield on all cutoffs. The pitcher floats and backs up home and third. The first baseman becomes the second cut-off, near the pitcher’s mound. The second baseman is at second, unless the ball is hit to right. The shortstop is the cut-off on all throws left of right.

– It has been team history that attendance at games decrease as the season progresses. However, with 13 or 14 players, as evidenced at the first game, playing time will be reduced. With no hard feelings, if any players feel that there playing time may not be enough or satisfactory, I can refund the prorated remainder of the registration fee. After one game, that would be 84%. No hard feelings.

Superbas Game 025-20070913

Game Summary

The Superbas opened the fall season with a disastrous loss to the Muckrackers, 13-2, in the early game at the Concord municipal fields. One bright note for the young season is the Superbas defense looks much improved.

Brooks Ramsdell pitched a gem, including slaving through the second-half of the game with a bruised thumb after a hard line drive caromed off the studly pitcher. Outfielder Tim Evans made several great catches, but his dirty mouth got him a warning from the umps. Second baseman Andy Orr and shorstop Tony Barsotti played well up the middle, and outfielders James Loden, Jesus Espinoza and Greg Sailor played solid.

The Superbas struggled at the plate, registering only ten hits. Ramsdell had two singles and an RBI, and also drew a walk. First baseman Jade Phillips had an RBI single. Outfielder Jesus Espinoza added two singles.

Defensive Players of the Game: Tim Evans and Brooks Ramsdell.
Offensive Players of the Game: Brooks Ramsdell (2-2, BB, RBI) and Jesus Espinoza (2-2).
