Superbas Game 012-20060719

Game Summary

The Superbas ended their inaugural season on a disappointing note as they were whipped by the seemingly-underaged The Goonies, 19-3, in the early game on Wednesday, July 19. The Superbas lost eight of their final nine games to finish the season 2-9-1.

The Superbas middle infield played well as shortstop Jeff Wisniewski and second baseman Brooks Ramsdell made several plays including turning a beautiful 4-6-3 double play, the defensive highlight of the game. The fans, including a number of cougars, cheered in delight.

First baseman Bill Mallchok came out of hiding and supplied the Superbas’ only extra-base hit, driving in 2 of the Superbas’ 3 runs. Mallchok, Wisniewski and outfielders Wright Cole and Eric Grace had 2 hits apiece. Ramsdell drew 2 walks and pitcher Kevin Ghalambor scored on a sacrifice fly by Wisniewski.

Catcher Joe Gray struck out swinging in the third.

In a sign of appreciation, the Superbas were nearly carried off the field after the game by the loyal fan base that had developed over this first season. The Superbas certainly gave a lot for their fans to cheer about; unfortunately, that didn’t equate to success in the win column.

Defensive Players of the Game: Jeff Wisniewski and Brooks Ramsdell.
Offensive Player of the Game: Bill Mallchok (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI).

Superbas Game 011-20060712

Game Summary

The Superbas suffered their most humiliating loss in franchise history, 30-4, against N It 2 Win It on Wednesday, July 12. The dry summer air hampered the defensive efforts of the Superbas as balls sailed past the outfielders and the “biggest assholes in the league” ran up the score.

Second baseman Brooks Ramsdell had two hits and a walk and scored three of the Superbas’ four runs. Third baseman Andy Orr had two hits and three runs batted-in. Shortstop Jeff Wisniewski had three hits and a run scored. Pitcher Carlo Quinonez hit a sacrifice fly. And that was pretty much it.

Defensively, the Superbas highlights came from their middle-infield combination of Wisniewski and Ramsdell and the two accounted for most of the Superbas’ defensive outs. In the last inning, Ramsdell moved to left field for defensive purposes and made another solid play on a deep fly ball. Catcher Joe Gray continues to hold his ground behind the plate as the game saw five plays at the plate, including several collisions; however, the fix was in, and the ump called all of the plays in the opponents’ favor.

First baseman Jeff Adams’ nine-game hitting streak came to an end. Gray struck out looking in the third.

The last game of the Superbas’ inaugural season is next Wednesday, July 19, in a rematch against the first-place The Goonies.

Defensive Players of the Game: Brooks Ramsdell and Jeff Wisniewski.
Offensive Players of the Game: Brooks Ramsdell (2-2, BB, 3 R), Jeff Wisniewski (3-3, 2B, R) and Andy Orr (2-3, 2B, 3 RBI).
