Superbas Practice

Softball Practice – Sunday 10AM – Concord (3/24/06)

Team-

Full practice at the Concord fields Sunday morning at 10am. Fields are at East Olivera and Willow Pass east of Hwy 680.

Bring bats, balls, gloves. We will try to put on an intrasquad scrimmage and practice situations. We need at least 11 players to do that.
The first game is in 19 days. If you’re not throwing, please start.

(The scrimmage in Davis is cancelled.)

superbas – practice SUNDAY 10AM – Willow Pass field #5 (3/30/06)

Team-

I attended the manager’s meeting last night in Concord. We have a few things cleared up: there is no restriction on home runs; we can play with a few as 8 players (up to 14 may bat).

PRACTICE:
Seven players made it to last practice (two were eventually injured). We have softball practice at 10AM on Sunday at Willow Pass Field #5 in Concord. (Please start throwing.)

FIRST GAME:
Our first game is April 19, 2006 at 9:30pm. Please arrive an hour before. (I need five players to complete Player Add forms prior to the first game – RHB, TPB, CG, PN, RH.)

We will be keeping all offensive stats. I’ve also developed a new statistic – the Contribution Percentage – which may just be the most inflatable statistic ever created since the OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage).

INJURY LIST:
We have four injuries to report. (Please let me know of any ailments that would possibly keep you from playing.)
Jeff Adams – knee – 1 week / day-to-day
Brooks Ramsdell – back – 1 to 2 weeks
Joe Gray – facial contusion – 1 week

JERSEYS:
Our jerseys will be ready in time for the first-game arrived.

– Jeff

superbas – practice SUNDAY 10AM – Willow Pass field #4 (4/7/06)

Superbas – Practice – Sunday 10AM – Willow Pass Field #4
Please attend. Unless it is pouring, we will be playing. Our first game is at 9:30pm on Wednesday, April 19. Please schedule accordingly.

I have yet to see BM, CQ, DB, JA, TB, or CG in practice, and liability-wise, I am told I can not allow people to be in a position to “hurt” themselves, e.g., JG.

By the way, we have two outstanding injuries..
Brooks Ramsdell is now day-to-day; and
Jeff Adams has deteriorated to 1- to 2-weeks.

– Jeff

superbas practice – SUNDAY 10AM – Willow Pass Fields (Concord) (4/14/06)

Team-
(1) Last practice before the first game… Sunday 10AM at Willow Pass Fields in Concord.
(2) I have yet to see BM, CQ, DB and CG.
(3) So far, nine players have accepted the invite to Wednesday’s game.

RE: superbas practice – SUNDAY 10AM – Willow Pass Fields (Concord) (4/16/06)

Practice is cancelled.

First Practice: Sunday March 18 @ 10am (3/7/07)

I wanted to first take a moment to welcome the new players to the team: Bill Artz; Michael Atiyeh; Tim Evans; Dyelan Grace; Gabriel Hernandez; B.H. Bronson Johnson; Chris Leo; and Jade Phillips. (New players should familiarize themselves with team rules and ordinances.)

This year’s team looks solid. The team is broken into two groups — East and West — based largely on geography (whatever that is). The captain of the East Side is Andy Orr and the captain of the West Side is Brooks Ramsdell. (The full roster is available here.)

Our first practice is tentatively scheduled for 10am on Sunday, March 18. (When I say 10am, I mean 9:30am.) We will practice at the game fields in Concord (map shown below), most likely field number four, the field farthest to the north. If you need directions, feel free to give me a call the morning of @ 510-205-4230.

If you haven’t paid your registration dues, please bring it to practice. If you’d like to pay via PayPal (plus a small fee), send me an email, and I will send you a money request.

Also, if you are new to the team, please think about what uniform number you’d like. (Be sure to take a look at the roster and see what is and what is not available.) We’ll need to get those orders in soon so we have them in time for the first game.

Concord Field Map

Practice: Sunday 3/18 @ 10am (3/13/07)

Just a reminder that our first practice will be this Sunday @ 10am at Concord’s Willow Pass Fields. (Download the location in Google Earth.) If you need directions, give me a call the morning of @ 510-205-4230.

Please bring your registration fee ($60) if you haven’t paid already. If you have any gear (gloves, balls, bats), please bring them too.

There may be a tournament (actually, there is) that weekend, but I’m pretty sure one of the fields will be open. If not, we will hightail it over to the fields on Cowell Road near Galindo Street.

See you Sunday.

-Jeff

Next Practice: Sunday March 25 @ 10am (3/19/07)

We will practice this coming weekend at the same time and same location — 10am at Willow Pass Fields No. 4 or 5 (the fields farthest north) on Sunday, March 25. We had a great showing yesterday — 10 players in all — which has to be some sort of team record. (Yes, yes it is.)

If you haven’t paid your dues ($60), please bring it to practice. Once again, if you need directions, please feel free to call me the morning of @ 510-205-4230.

-Jeff

Practice: Sunday 3/25 @ 10am (3/23/07)

Just a reminder that our next practice will be this Sunday @ 10am at Concord’s Willow Pass Fields. If you need directions, give me a call the morning of @ 510-205-4230.

Please bring your registration fee ($60) if you haven’t paid already. If you have any gear (gloves, balls, bats, etc.), please bring them too.

See you Sunday.

-Jeff

Next Practice: Sunday April 1 @ 10am (3/27/07)

We will practice this coming weekend at the same time and same location — 10am at Willow Pass Fields No. 4 or 5 (the fields farthest north) on Sunday, April 1. We had another great showing this past Sunday — 8 players — including our first injured player (which results in the timely unveiling of the Superbas weekly injured list, posted shortly).

In all, eleven players have shown up to at least one practice, and the lineup is taking form. The others — KG, CQ, JA, WC, BA, BJ, JP — should get their arms loose and a few swings in before the first game, which may be as early as April 10. (So come to practice and earn your spot in the field.)

If you haven’t paid your dues ($60), please bring it to practice. Once again, if you need directions, please feel free to call me the morning of @ 510-205-4230.

Also, if you will miss a practice, it is absolutely not necessary to call and leave me a voicemail describing how you feel and why you will miss practice. (And if I can somehow get those messages in mp3 form, I will post them to the blog for all to listen. Fair warning.)

-Jeff

Last Practice: Saturday April 7 @ 10am (4/3/07)

Our next practice is scheduled for 10am at Willow Pass Fields No. 4 or 5 (the fields farthest north) on Saturday, April 7. This will be the last practice before our first game on the tenth (schedule to be posted shortly). We had a pathetic showing this past weekend — five players — and unless you plan to start the season on a ligament-tearing rampage, you will most likely suck unless you warm up your arm and swing a bat. (Yes, I mean you.)

That being said, here is the tentative* opening day defensive lineup…

P Espinoza
C Gray
1B D. Grace
2B Ramsdell
3B Orr
SS Wisniewski
LF Leo
CF Grace
RF Atiyeh
XF Evans
DH Hernandez

* Based on players who have come to practice.

In order to improve our player profiles, please send me your measurements. If you are married, please send me your wife’s measurements as well. (All information is helpful.)

I have established April 9 as the deadline for registration dues, so if you haven’t paid by the day before the first game, you are a deadbeat, and therefore, off the team. I understand this may be portrayed as a harsh tactic, but this team has a reputation to uphold (in the eyes of the cougars of Concord, and we shall not disappoint).

Some people may ask, “hey Wisniewski, were you high when you wrote this?” and I assure you I’m not, but I have been in the sun all day, and that reminds me, if you are ever in the mood for an impromptu moonlight stroll along the railroad tracks, I know this person who is looking for a walking partner. If you are interested, check out his website at walkingpartner.com.

That is all.

-Jeff

Practice Canceled (4/6/07)

This weekend’s scheduled practice for Saturday is canceled. Our first game is Tuesday, April 10, at 8:25pm on Field 1. Be sure to be there by 8:00 to get warmed up.

Next Practice: Sunday April 28 @ 10am (4/26/07)

Due to popular demand, we will practice this coming weekend — 10am at Willow Pass Fields No. 4 or 5 (the fields farthest north) on Sunday, April 28. We will try to go over some basics (cutoffs, backing-up throws, field captains, base-running), followed by a discussion of softball, what it is, and how it affects us.

-Jeff

First Practice: Sunday September 9 @ 10am (9/4/07)

I wanted to first take a moment to welcome the new players to the team: Tony Barsotti, Scott Garrett, Jeff Jones, James Loden, Jim Mahoney, Jade Phillips and Juan Rubio.

Our first practice is scheduled for 10am on Sunday, September 9. We will practice at the game fields in Concord (map shown below), most likely field number four, the field farthest to the north. If you need directions, feel free to give me a call the morning of @ 510-205-4230.

If you haven’t paid your registration dues, please bring it to practice. Or pay via PayPal (e.g., credit or debit card).

Practice: Sunday 9/9 @ 10am (9/7/07)

Just a reminder that our first practice will be this Sunday @ 10am at Concord’s Willow Pass Fields. If you need directions, give me a call the morning of @ 510-205-4230.

Please bring your registration fee ($40) if you haven’t paid already. If you have any gear (gloves, balls, bats, etc.), please bring them too.

See you Sunday.

Softball Team Information (3/9/06)

Team-

Intro

The addressees of this email are the members of the Red-Legged Superbas softball team. We are in the Wednesday night D-League in the Concord City league. Games will start at either 6:30pm or 7:45pm. Our first game is Wednesday, April 12. The season is 12-weeks long, plus a playoff.

Practices

The team is easily broken into two factions, Mare Island and San Ramon. We encourage both offices to get together regularly and throw the ball around, play pepper, hit flies and grounders, and get in some batting practice, when possible. (Currently, up here in Mare, we go out everyday, sometimes twice a day and toss the ball around.) We are hurriedly looking into a place for the team to practice, and we feel that somewhere in Concord makes obvious sense. If anyone has any ideas, or knows of a field that should be free, please set something up.

Equipment

If you have softball equipment (bats, gloves, balls, etc.) please load them in your truck and bring them to practices.

Jerseys

We have placed an order for jerseys. The approximate cost per player is roughly $15. (We will see if this can be reduced.)

Team Rules

The first rule of softball club is, you do not talk about softball club.

The second rule of softball club is, you do not talk about softball club.

The third rule, every player will play at least three innings in the field.

The fourth rule, if you do not play well at a position, you will not play that position.

The fifth rule, we will always bat the maximum players allowed.

The sixth rule, no player can wear the number 1.

And the last rule, winning the game is more important than remaining friends.

Nice play on the Fight Club rules.  What if you don’t play well at any position? Does this mean that I have to sit the bench?

Rumors are crawling yet are still unconfirmed that… (7/20/06)

Rumors are crawling, yet are still unconfirmed, that the Superbas may possibly join the Concord Fall league.

The most surprising feat from this inaugural season is the Superbas ability to avoid a mutiny against Player/Coach Wisniewski.

2006 Summer Banquet (7/25/06)

The banquet will be held in Concord on Saturday, August 19. Information is available here.

Season 2 (1/9/07)

Team-

It is coming to that (wonderful) time of year. I can almost smell it… cougars.

If you are interested in continuing as a member of the Red-Legged Superbas, please reply to this email. All members of the inaugural team will automatically be on the team. If we need additional teammates, and you know someone who may be interested, send them to superbas.org/interest. (We may need to set up a tryout, if necessary.)

Later.

Summer Season Registration (1/30/07)

Team-

If you have received this email, you are one of the ten players that have decided to return for the Superbas’ second season. (I will be able to register all of you since I have your information from last year’s registration.)

This season…
– We will play on Tuesday evenings in the Concord Municipal “D” League.
– The cost of the team will be $60/person, based on 15 players, to cover the cost. I will ask new players to purchase a uniform, as necessary.

Are you guys still down? (Maybe one of you bigwigs — BR, JA — can swing something at your place of employment, a la sponsorship. If so, we can figure something out; please let me know so we can get moving.)

Alright, if you’re down, let me know for sure, so we can get registered and paid-to-play.

If all ten will stay with the team, we will need five or six new players. If you guys know anyone interested — at ENGEO or elsewhere — please send them to superbas.org/interest. I will contact them shortly afterwards with detailed information.

With regards to payment, we can do three things — cash, check, or PayPal. (My PayPal account accepts credit cards, so for all of you bonus-mile-saving people, that may be your cash cow invitation.)

Also, stay up-to-date with the blog at superbas.org/blog. And you can receive email updates by subscribing to the blog at superbas.org/subscribe.

I hope to hear from you shortly.

– Jeff

All About Money (2/16/07)

Team-

This email has reached the nine Superbas players that work for ENGEO. If you would like to receive your email at your personal address, e.g., Gmail, Yahoo, etc., (if you do not already), please reply and let me know what email you’d like me to send information to. (Also, feel free to use engeo@superbas.org to contact all ENGEO players.)

News regarding who’s returning and who’s not has been posted on the blog, and team updates, e.g., practices, games, injuries, etc., will be posted there regularly during the season so be sure to check it out at superbas.org/blog. (We have seven new players this season and they will be introduced on the blog next week.)

But, onto the reason for this email. Money. Please forward $60 (in the form of cash or check made payable to “Jeffrey Wisniewski”) to Joe Gray in Mare Island. You can also mail me directly, or stop by my house. Either way, we need your money. [Grace- you are responsible for your brother.]

Please note that this season, I will be posting more news and information to the team blog rather than emailing the team, so please subscribe to the blog feed at superbas.org/subscribe and receive updates by email.

– Jeff

Re: All About Money (2/22/07)

Team-

I can also receive payments via PayPal (debit or credit) for a small fee. If you are interested, please let me know, and I will send you a PayPal invoice for $62.

[Grace- Remember, you are responsible for your brother.]

– Jeff

Schedule Notes (4/5/07)

A few thoughts on the schedule

(1) We have four 6:15 games (compared to just two last year). This may prove to be troublesome as these are typically the games the fewest players are able to attend. The 6:15 games are scheduled for 4/24, 5/1, 5/22, and 6/26.

(2) We have no 9:30 games (compared to two last year). This is the game time that almost everyone can attend, and we have none. So it goes.

(3) We do not play on field 4, the field farthest to the north, the one that we practice on (or try to). This is the field that is always in the worst condition, so this is good news.

(4) We play most of our games (eight) on field 2, which faces west. The left side of the field, and the batter and catcher, will have to fight the glare of the sun for most games.

Roster Finalized (4/9/07)

A few roster changes have been made over the past week, but the 2007 summer roster has now been finalized…

Player/Coach
#3 Jeff Wisniewski

East Side
#10 Carlo Quinonez
#16 Jeff Adams
#19 Chris Leo
#20 Dyelan Grace
#21 Tim Evans
#27 Andy Orr (Captain)
#41 Wright Cole
#51 Michael Atiyeh

West Side
#5 Eric Grace
#8 Kevin Ghalambor
#14 Brooks Ramsdell (Captain)
#23 Jesus Espinoza
#00 Joe Gray
#09 Gabe Hernandez
B.H. Bronson Johnson
Airto Smith

The team is broken down into two, an east and west side, as I feel this fosters a healthy intra-team rivalry. The captain of the east side is Andy Orr and the captain of the west side is Brooks Ramsdell. Consult your captain if you have issues with the coach (yours truly); he will lobby on your behalf. The captains are also ultimately responsible for their half of the team and it is their ass if you don’t play well (or show up), so please make your captain proud.

2007 Fall Season (7/27/07)

Because of great demand, we will be fielding a team for the coming fall season. If it is a go, we will be playing on Thursday nights in the Concord “D” league. So far, we have seven current players interested. (A handful of players on the current roster will not receive automatic invitation to rejoin the team.) If you are interested, please let me know immediately. The registration deadline is August 6. (I will contact individuals regarding registration by email.)

We are looking to field a team of fifteen players, which will amount to a fee of roughly $40 each. Therefore, we need six or seven additional players, although, only twelve are needed to register. If you know of anyone interested, please send them to superbas.org/interest so I can get in touch with them. Also, I posted an ad on craigslist, which was very successful last time.

We are currently looking for a sponsor, but I am told that, because of the housing market, the demand to sponsor beer league softball teams has diminished. So be it; we move forward.

Stats Error (7/12/07)

I apologize, but there is an error in the statistics from last game. Chris Leo only had four RBIs, not five. This is accurately reflected in the game summary and inning-by-inning posts, however the box score, batting statistics and batting leaders posts are incorrect. These numbers will be corrected when I publish the final statistics for the season after next game.

Summer Banquet (8/7/07)

The summer banquet will take place Saturday, September 8, in Walnut Creek. Please make some note in a calendar of some form to save the date.

All Superbas players, past, present and future, are invited to attend.

More details will follow. However, in the mean time, and of utmost importance, please settle all debts with the team.

2007 Fall Roster (8/20/07)

The 2007 Fall roster has been finalized…

Jeff Adams
Mike Atiyeh
Tony Barsotti
Wright Cole
Jesus Espinoza
Tim Evans
Scott Garrett
Joe Gray
Jeff Jones
James Loden
Jim Mahoney
Andy Orr
Jade Phillips
Brooks Ramsdell
Juan Rubio
Jeff Wisniewski

Summer Banquet: This Saturday In Hercules (9/5/07)

Everyone is invited — all players, past, present and future — to enjoy a keg of fine beer and food to grill and eat. People should bring a side or something to roll, as well as any fees not yet paid (e.g., Fall 2007 registration fee, Strikeout for Beer Keg donation).

Where?
Coach’s house: 1102 Avocet Drive in Hercules. (See in-line map below. If you need directions along the way, call me @ 510-205-4230.)

When?
Saturday, September 8, 2007.
4pm until the keg is empty.

Note: I have a puppy, so if you don’t like dogs, you are still invited, but you cannot come.

Summer 2008 (2/4/08)

I am doing a feasibility analysis for fielding a team this season. If you are interested in playing, please respond to the Feedburner feed email or send an email to coach@superbas.org. The deadline to register is February 22, so please reply as soon as possible. In fact, reply even if you are not interested. That way I will quit bugging you with emails.

-Jeff

Maybe Next Year (2/12/08)

There is not enough interest to field a Superbas team this season. (The website has been altered to reflect this.)

Hopefully we will be able to bounce back in 2009, and get back to our winning ways.

There will always be a long-term vision for the Red-Legged Superbas, a vision that includes charitable giving, scholarship programs, and lap dances.

I wish the best of luck to all of you in 2008.

-Jeff
